Terms of service
Last updated October 16, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and The Info Lab LLC (“Pubsworth,” “we”) for using pubsworth.com and the Pubsworth app. By creating an account, you agree to them. They’re written to be read. If anything is unclear, ask us at support@pubsworth.com.
1. Your account
- You must be at least 16 to use Pubsworth. If you’re under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these terms for you.
- You sign in with codes sent to your email, so keep that email account secure. You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
- Give us a real email address and keep it current, so we can reach you about your account and your writing.
2. Your writing
- You own what you write. These terms give us no ownership of it.
- You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your writing, back it up, and show it to you and to the people your workspace lets see it. This permission ends when your writing is erased.
- We will never use your writing to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models, and we will never sell, license, or give it to anyone for that purpose.
- We don’t read, scan, or moderate your writing. What you write is your business.
- You can export your writing at any time (Settings › Export my writing).
The Your writing page and the Privacy policy say more about who can see it and when.
3. Workspaces and teams
- Each workspace has one owner, who manages it and pays for it. The owner and any admins can invite and remove members, and can export the writing of every member in that workspace.
- If an owner or admin removes you from a workspace, the writing you made there stays in that workspace, and they choose which member receives it. If you leave, it goes to the owner. Export your own copy first if you want one.
- If an owner or admin deactivates you instead, you can’t open that workspace, and your writing there stays under your name. If they reactivate you, it’s all still there.
- Writing you make in your own workspace stays yours. Being a member of another workspace gives its owner and admins no access to your own workspace, or to any other workspace you’re in.
4. Acceptable use
Don’t use Pubsworth to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone else’s rights
- attack, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the service, or get around its limits
- send spam or malware, or abuse the invite and email features
- get into other people’s accounts or workspaces without permission
- pay with a card that isn’t yours, or commit any other payment fraud
Writing about difficult subjects, including violence, sex, abuse, and grief, doesn’t break these terms. Section 4 is about how you use the service, never what you write.
5. Plans, trials, and payment
- Pubsworth is a subscription billed for each member (seat) each month. New workspaces start with a 14-day free trial, and no card is needed to start it.
- The workspace owner pays. Adding a member adds a seat, charged for the days left in the billing period. Removing or deactivating a member keeps their seat to the end of the period and doesn’t renew it. Reactivating them before then costs nothing, and after it, their seat is charged like a new member’s.
- Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT may be added where it applies.
- You can cancel any time. Your plan runs to the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Payments aren’t refundable, and we don’t refund part of a period you’ve used, except where the law requires it. If we end your plan without cause, or close Pubsworth, before the end of a period you’ve paid for, we refund the unused part.
- If a payment lapses or you cancel, nothing is deleted straight away. The workspace becomes read-only, and everyone can still read and export their writing. The owner can renew within six months. After that the workspace is erased, and we email reminders 30, seven, and one day before.
6. Price changes
- Prices can change. We’ll tell you by email, at your account’s address.
- A new price starts at your next renewal, monthly or yearly, never partway through a period you’ve already paid for. An increase applies only at a renewal at least 30 days after we’ve told you. A decrease applies at your next bill.
- If you don’t want to pay a new price, cancel before it applies. You keep access to the end of the period you paid for.
7. Warnings, suspension, and access to your writing
- We never suspend you for what you write. We don’t read or scan your writing, and nothing in it is grounds for suspension. We act only on how the service is used: attacking or overloading it, spam, payment fraud, or getting into accounts that aren’t yours, or when a court order or the law requires it.
- We warn you first. We email you what we saw and what to stop, and show the warning in Pubsworth. Nothing is locked, and you have seven days to put it right or tell us we’ve got it wrong. We suspend only if it carries on after that.
- We suspend without a warning only in an emergency: an attack or spam in progress, payment fraud, an account someone else has taken over, or a court order. The email tells you which.
- We will not keep you from your own writing. If we suspend your account, we’ll email you why and how to answer, and you can still sign in and export your writing, unless the law prevents it. Suspension never deletes anything.
- If you think a warning or a suspension is a mistake, reply to its email and a person will review it.
8. Ending your account
- You can delete your account in Settings. It’s kept for 90 days in case you change your mind, then erased. A workspace you delete is kept for 90 days the same way.
- You can’t delete your account while you own a workspace with other members in it. Transfer ownership or remove them first.
- If we ever close Pubsworth, we’ll give you at least 90 days’ notice and keep export working until the end.
9. Backups and availability
We back up everything every night and work to keep Pubsworth available, but no service is perfect. For extra peace of mind, Export my writing and Settings › Backup folder let you keep your own copies.
Pubsworth is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we don’t promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Our total liability for any claim about Pubsworth is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. The promises in section 2 about your writing will not be weakened for writing you’ve already stored.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state courts of Montgomery County, Maryland, or the federal courts for the District of Maryland, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.
