Your writing is yours
Pubsworth is a place to write, not a place that mines writing. Here’s what that means, in plain words. The Privacy policy and Terms of service say the same things in legalese.
You own everything you write
It’s yours, full stop. We don’t claim any rights to it. We keep it safe and show it back to you, and that’s the whole job.
We love copyright. We hate plagiarism. We stand by it.
It’s never used to train AI
Not by us, and not by any company we work with. We don’t sell it, license it, or share it for that purpose, and this promise is part of our Terms.
There’s no AI in Pubsworth
We believe in the joy of the struggle: wrestling with a sentence until it says what you mean, and the stubborn pleasure of having written it yourself.
No buttons that send your draft to a model, no suggestions written by one.
Nobody reads it
We don’t scan your writing, filter it, or flag it, whatever you write about. Even our own admin screens never show what it says.
Your writing sits in our database, so technically we could open it. But we don’t. There are only two exceptions: you ask us to help with something, or a court order or warrant makes us. Then we hand over only what it covers, and we tell you first unless the law forbids it.
On a team, know who can see what
Joining a workspace doesn’t share anything. No other member can read a piece unless you share it with them. (Sharing isn’t in Pubsworth yet. When it arrives, it’ll work this way.)
There’s one exception: the workspace’s owner and admins can download a copy of everyone’s writing there. If they remove you, they choose who receives your writing in that workspace. If you leave, it goes to the owner. If they deactivate you, it stays there under your name, waiting for you.
If you have a workspace of your own, it’s yours. Joining someone else’s gives its owner and admins no way into yours, or into any other workspace you’re in. They can’t see its writing, its name, or even that it exists.
You can always take it with you
We’ll never hold your writing hostage. You can always export your writing, on any plan: Settings › Export my writing downloads all of it as plain-text files that open anywhere. If a payment lapses, your workspace becomes read-only, but you can still read and export for six months.
We won’t lock you out without warning
We’re fans of free speech, self-expression, and powerful storytelling, and that sort of writing can go to hard places: violence, sex, abuse, grief, and language you wouldn’t use at the dinner table. That’s writing, and it’s welcome here.
So we never suspend anyone for what they write. Suspension is only for how the service is used: trying to break into it, overloading it with traffic, breaking it on purpose, sending spam, or payment fraud.
Even then, we warn you first, by email and in Pubsworth, and give you seven days to put it right or tell us we’ve got it wrong. Only an emergency, such as an attack in progress or a court order, skips the warning. A suspended account can still sign in and download all of its writing, and suspension never deletes anything.
Again, we’re not in the business of taking hostages.
It’s safe even if your computer isn’t
We keep your writing on our servers, so if your laptop dies or you lose your phone, nothing is lost. Sign in anywhere and pick up where you left off.
- Every night, we back up everything, so even a bad day on our end won’t cost you your writing.
- Offline, keep writing. Lose your connection, or switch off the internet for a session with no distractions, and every word stays in your browser until it reaches us, even if the tab closes. Back online, it all catches up on its own. Just open Pubsworth before you unplug: it needs a connection to start.
- Your own copy, if you’d like one too. In Chrome or Edge, Settings › Backup folder keeps a copy of everything in a folder you choose, kept up to date, even offline.
Deleting is your call
Archive tucks your writing away, and Unarchive brings it back. Delete means gone: right away, versions and all, so we always ask first.
Workspaces and accounts get a grace period. You can restore one yourself any time in the 90 days before it’s erased.
It’s encrypted
We encrypt every word on its way between your device and our servers, and again once it reaches us. It’s safe from prying eyes and bots.
